Issue

I can't download a file, or otherwise access a file on Canvas.

Environment

  • Canvas
  • Web Browser
  • Canvas Page
  • Canvas Exam/Quiz

Resolution

Note: This is a troubleshooting article meant to teach reporters how to see link URLS.

  1. Sign into Canvas
  2. Go to your Course
  3. Direct your attention to the URL bar - take note of your Course URL. (Will look like https://psu.instructure.com/courses/#######)
  4. Navigate to the page where the link is reportedly broken.
  5. Hover your mouse (move your mouse pointer over the link without clicking.) over the reported link or file download.
  6. Take note of the page it's linked to: Does the course number differ than your course's number from step #3?
  7. Please refer to Canvas: Reusing Files for how to embed files or link to files on Canvas.
