Article Intended For

Penn State faculty, staff, students, and affiliates who want to delete captions and transcripts from their Kaltura media.

Introduction

At some point you may want to delete the captions for a video you own within Kaltura. For example, you have machine captions currently attached to a video and a third-party vendor provides you with newer and more accurate captions. Before uploading the new caption and transcript files, you must first delete the existing files. This article demonstrates how to delete existing captions and transcripts from your media in Kaltura.

NOTES:

  • If you delete a machine captions file, you will be unable to order new machine captions.
  • Kaltura attaches a transcript file any time you order machine captions. The transcript shows viewers the entire dialogue in the video as shown in the captions. If you add your own captions, Kaltura doesn't automatically add a transcript file. For information about adding your own transcript file, please see Kaltura: Upload a Transcript File (opens in new window).
  • If you delete a caption file, we recommend that you also delete the corresponding transcript file, and vice-versa.
  • Kaltura may take a few hours to a day to completely remove captions from media files once deleted. Kaltura may take a day or so to completely remove the transcript from media files once deleted.
