Introduction

Penn State IT's Deskside and Endpoint Management team will deploy critical updates to computers to ensure that you have the safest possible computing environment.

Windows and Mac updates will be deployed in the background. These updates will not interrupt your work.

When the updates are applied you will see a notification letting you know that your machine needs to be restarted. You do not have to restart your machine right then. You can snooze to a more convenient time if you need to.

The updates will have a mandatory reboot deadline of 3 days.

If your machine has not rebooted by that time, you will see a Take Action window on your machine, and it will stay up on your screen until you Click on Take Action and reboot your machine.

It will NOT reboot your machine automatically.

iOS updates are being sent out continuously through PSU’s mobile device management system called JAMF. Those devices will not see the pop-up notification devices mentioned above and when the updates are complete the devices will reboot quickly.
