Article Intended For
Penn State faculty, staff, students, and affiliates who need a private connection to secured Penn State resources when learning or working remotely.
Introduction
The article describes the expected user experience when logging on to the PSU GlobalProtect VPN using Default Browser.
Article Body
The login process for Penn State GlobalProtect VPN will leverage the default browser on the client computer in order to support the use of advanced login methods not supported in the GlobalProtect embedded agent browser. The login process using the default browser will require that users manually interact with a message allowing the browser to pass the authentication from the default browser to the GlobalProtect agent software. When the prompt appears it will present the option to always open GlobalProtect that can be checked to ensure that future login will not require the additional interaction to proceed.
Recommended Action
The message should state that https://vpn.psu.edu wants to open GlobalProtect.
In order to complete login check the box to always allow this action and then the Open button to proceed.
If the always allow button is not checked the prompt will need manual interaction for login to complete and the GlobalProtect software to connect to the VPN.
The pop-up message will vary slightly depending on the browser used as default on a computer. The following screenshots are examples of the message in Firefox and Microsoft Edge broswers.
What happens if I click cancel?
If you cancel the login you can click the "click here" text on the webpage to prompt again if you accidentally cancel the prompt.
