Article Intended For
Penn State faculty and staff using a softphone calling application on a desktop, laptop, or tablet.
Introduction
Location tracking capability is now required for those using a softphone, such as Microsoft Teams Phone or Cisco Jabber/WebEx. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) made a recent rule change to strengthen enhanced 911 service (also called E911) to ensure accurate location information. Penn State IT will conduct regular audits to maintain compliance with the enhanced 911 service.
Devices with cellular calling plans are not required to have MyE911, as the cellular network will automatically route emergency calls and provide locations to responding agencies.
