Article Intended For
Penn State students, faculty, and staff using Microsoft Office 365.
Introduction
Use SharePoint Online and SharePoint Sites to store and manage files that are shared with others. Files stored in SharePoint are meant to be shared with other users, as opposed to files stored in OneDrive, which are kept private until you share them.
Every Team has an associated SharePoint Site, and every SharePoint Site has an associated Team. SharePoint is meant for storing files and making those files accessible to a broad audience. You can use the file permission management options to give access to both individual users and larger groups.
Here are some other examples of when to use SharePoint:
- You want a group of people to be able to access shared files.
- You need to grant ownership or assign permissions for specific files or folders to a range of users.
- You want to collaborate on files stored in a Team.
