Microsoft Teams Phone and Teams-to-Teams Calling
Penn State selected Microsoft Teams as our next-generation communications tool, a single platform to collaborate and create. Soon, we will benefit from even more Teams capability by enabling its voice technology for all University units and campuses. Penn State IT will work directly with local IT professionals to strategically deploy the additional voice features in 2023.
Adopting full-featured Microsoft Teams voice options pairs full-featured telephone technology with complete mobility, identifies you with your business profile when making or receiving calls, and eliminates the need to maintain a physical telephone – make calls from anywhere! The Teams app provides two methods for making voice calls; Teams Phone, the option for external calling needs, and Teams Calling, when internal calling is all you need.
Standard Features of Teams Telephone Technologies
- Use the app on a laptop, mobile phone, or tablet from any location
- Make and receive calls without a physical telephone
- Use your professional profile – protect personal contact information
- Voicemail built-in
- Call history
- Search for colleagues with the University Directory
- Create speed dials and contact groups
Teams Phone – External Calling (optional)
Making and receiving phone calls external to our University community is done with Teams Phone. This capability requires that you maintain a billable phone number and calling plan that meets your business needs. The Teams Phone option can be used along with Teams Calling.
Teams-to-Teams Calling - University Voice and Video Calling
Anyone using Microsoft Teams already has this capability! If you use Teams now, you are undoubtedly familiar with the convenient built-in chat and calling features. We search for a Teams contact, start a chat, or begin a voice or video call. Think of this as "peer-to-peer" calling.
