Turnitin - Service Offering

Turnitin is a web-based writing assessment toolkit that allows instructors to provide feedback to students through markup tools, rubrics, proofing tools, and originality reports to detect plagiarism. The service also provides peer review options. Turnitin is available either as a stand-alone tool or through integration with Canvas. 


Service Availability

Services are available 24/7, with occasional scheduled maintenance, 5:00—7:00 a.m. Vendor maintenance will vary.

These services are available at no cost to the user.

Requirements

The service is available only to those who are eligible and have a Penn State Account. TurnItIn is for review and assessment of coursework only. Material intended for publication or research should not be reviewed through Turnitin. Turnitin's database is designed for coursework and may not return expected results. Additionally, the use of TurnItIn in this manner is against Penn State's license.
