Research: Internal Approval Form (IAF) - How to complete an approval as a Compliance Approver

All university faculty, staff, researchers with permission to use and/or access Penn State Research Information System - Internal Approval Form (IAF).

Introduction

Any person added as a Compliance Approver for a particular compliance area indicated on an IAF can approve the IAF in order for award negotiations to proceed. 

When an approval is required each approver in an involved compliance area will receive an email from epiaf@psu.edu with the subject Internal Approval Form (IAF) ACTION REQUIRED.

Steps for approving:

  1. From the ACTION REQUIRED email, click on the Title or Click here to access the IAF link.
    1. Alternatively, a compliance approver can access the IAF directly at http://www.sims.psu.edu/iaf and select the IAF from the “Home” Locate IAF Actions Required tab.
  2. Navigate to the Approvals tab
    1. Verify the compliance area/areas not completed for which you are responsible (ie. an assigned reviewer)
  3. Navigate to the Summary tab to find the compliance area requiring your review (Export, Disclosures, Human Subjects, Animal, Biosafety, Radiation)
  4. Once your compliance review is complete, press the Approve button in the top right corner of the screen. 
    1. NOTE:  If you are an approver in more than one compliance office requiring review on the IAF, your personal approval action will approve ALL areas for which you are responsible.  (See the assurance statement below).  Therefore, before executing the Approve action, make sure you have completed your review for all involved compliance offices.

  1.  Select all listed assurance statement questions and press the I Approve button
