Introduction

The Export Tab collects information about potential export control issues with the proposed research.  This article gives instructions on how to complete this tab.

IAF Data Entry - Export tab

This tab collects information about potential export control issues with the proposed research.

This tab can be completed by a Research Administrator or PI.

The Export Tab

  1. Will the project require access to classified facilities or classified information?: If the project requires access to classified facilities or classified information please choose "Yes". This option should be selected if the project will require personnel to hold security clearances. This item is required. Selecting “Yes” for this value will require an “Export Control Approval” waiver.  Answering "Yes" to this question will generate an email to the Export Control Office upon primary PI approval.
  2. Is the sponsor or prime sponsor a foreign entity?: If the sponsor or prime sponsor is a foreign entity, please choose "Yes". This will be automatically answered based on the sponsor and prime sponsor identified on the Basic Info tab.
  3. Does the project include payment to any foreign subrecipients or foreign consultants?: If foreign subrecipients or foreign consultants are proposed, please choose Yes. This item is required. Selecting “Yes” for this value will require an “Export Control Approval” waiver. Answering "Yes" to this question will generate an email to the Export Control Office upon primary PI approval.
  4. Will there be any foreign visitors or unpaid foreign collaborators associated with this project?: If foreign visitors (also known as Visiting Scientists) will be participating in the project, please choose “Yes”. If you will be collaborating with any foreign persons, colleagues or entities, other than paid foreign subrecipients or paid foreign consultants identified in the previous question, please choose “Yes”. If the only foreign parties will be Penn State employees or enrolled students, please choose “No”. This item is required.
  5. Does the project require foreign travel?: If the project involves travel outside the U.S. or any U.S. territories, please choose “Yes”. This item is required. The primary PI will receive a email to register for the “Travel Safety Network” when the award is fully processed.
  6. Other than technical reports, will the project involve the delivery of goods, materials or services to a foreign location or a foreign individual?: If the project requires the shipment of equipment, materials, or controlled technical data to a foreign recipient, please choose “Yes”. This does not include delivery to a U.S. company with foreign employees. (Examples may include but are not limited to prototypes, novel materials, unpublished third party technical data, proprietary software) This item is required.
  7. Export Control Approval waiver. If required, file size limit is 100MB.
