Telephony: Setting your On-system Phone Set Display Name

VoIP users who elect to use phone sets can now set the display name that will appear when calls from their phone sets are answered on other University VoIP phone sets at their campus.

How do I select my phone set out-going call display name?

A new feature has been added to the My.VoIP portal.

Will I be able to customize my display name?

Unfortunately, no, you will not be able to customize your phone set display name, but you will be able to pick between four choices (Number, Name, Department, or Business Area) based upon official University directory information.  (Please contact your HR representative if the contact information displayed is not correct.)

Will my display name selection also appear if I elect to use Cisco Jabber to call users on University VoIP phone sets?

Unfortunately, no, by default Cisco Jabber calls will display your name as it appears in the University directory, regardless of whether you have selected the alternate options when using your phone set.  (Displaying your phone number or department is not an option when making on-system calls with Cisco Jabber.)

Will my display name selection also appear when I make calls off-system (to non-University VoIP numbers)?

Unfortunately, no, this feature will only function with calls to other users on the University VoIP system.  Off-system called parties will see one of various University labels such as "The Pennsylvania State University" based upon the vendor ultimately delivering the call.

No, there is no charge to update your Phone Set Display Name.

There is no limit to the number of times that you can change your Phone Set Display Name.

How do I update the display name on VoIP lines that are not associated with my University directory listing?

In cases where you are responsible for VoIP lines that are not associated with your University directory listing, please submit your display name changes requests via the Penn State Telephony Services request form using the last option "I would like further options and more information about Telephony Service".
