ARTICLE INTENDED FOR:

Faculty and staff users of Starfish

INTRODUCTION:

You can control your scheduling deadline and meeting location in Starfish under the Appointment Preferences tab in your profile. These settings allow you to set how students can schedule to meet with you. You can also control several other calendar settings from this tab (featured in other articles):

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

Navigate to Appointment Preferences in your Profile

  1. Log in to Starfish
  2. Go to your Profile by
    1. Clicking the triple-bar (or "hamburger") icon in the upper left
    2. Starfish hamburger menu

    1. Then clicking on your name
  3. Select Appointment Preferences from the dropdown menu.

Set scheduling deadline preferences

  1. In the Office Hour Defaults section, select your default settings for appointment blocks (“office hours”).
  2. If you want to set a scheduling deadline for students, choose that here.
    • Note: This does not prevent a student from cancelling the scheduled meeting at any point.
    • Note: If you do not set a scheduling deadline, Starfish may offer students appointments at non-standard times to try to accommodate them. For example, if you have open blocks from 1:00–2:00 p.m. and 2:00–3:00 p.m. on a certain day and a student checks your appointment availability at 1:00 p.m., Starfish may offer a student a 1:15 p.m. appointment to make the best use of the available time. If non-standard appointment times would pose a problem for your work processes, a scheduling deadline should be set.
  3. If you are done making changes, click Save Changes

Set your meeting location(s)

  1. Under the My Locations section, click Add Location, and add the office address to be used by students when coming to meet with you. If you would like to offer appointments remotely, you will first need to add a Zoom room as a meeting location.
  2. If you are done making changes, click Save Changes.
