My system is turned off, how do I turn it on?

This process depends the system that you are using. You can learn more about how to operate your video conferencing equipment by speaking with your room system technical contact or by participating in a training program offered at Penn State. It is required that you know how to operate Penn State video conferencing equipment prior to using it.

I’m on the phone with the NOC and they told me to reboot my system, how do I do that?

My monitors are turned on but I don’t see any video, what should I do?

The first thing you should do if you find yourself in a situation like this is to ensure that your monitors are set to the correct video input channel to receive video from your codec. If this does not fix your problem, inform your conference participants of your issue and leave your conference (if you are currently in a conference) and dial-in to the loopback (39344). If you are able to see your own video then the problem may be the result of an issue with one of your far-site participants. This can be easy to diagnose if you have more than one other participant in your conference. If you are the only person not receiving video then it is your system that is having the issue. At this point, contact your room system technical contact to have a look at your system.

My system won’t power on, what should I do?

If possible, check to make sure the system is plugged in to a power source. Contact your room system technical contact to have them check your system if your system is plugged in to a power source.

My volume is up but I can’t hear any audio, what should I do?

Check to make sure that the volume on your codec has been turned up and, if your system has external speakers, the volume on the speakers has been turned up as well. If none of these checks solves the problem and you are in a conference with only one other far-site, check with them to ensure that they do not have their microphone muted.

I’m sending content but the far-site can’t see it, what is happening?

If are using a Polycom VSX series codec it uses an algorithm known as People+Content that is no longer supported by the more modern software on the Penn State video bridge. You will still be able to share content in point-to-point calls, but not in a call requiring the Penn State video Bridge.

If you or your fellow participants are using a desktop video system, the most common problem with sharing content is that the firewall that is protecting your or your far-sites local network has not been configured to allow content to pass through. Please consult with your local IT group if you are experiencing such an issue.

My camera isn’t pointed where I need it, what should I do?

Select the camera button on your Polycom remote and select the camera that you would like to adjust. Use the directional buttons located between the volume and zoom controls on the remote to adjust where the camera is pointing and use the zoom buttons to the left of the directional buttons to zoom the camera in or out.

The wrong camera is currently active, how do I switch it?

Use the camera button on your Polycom remote to switch from one camera to another. Pressing the camera button will open a list on the bottom of your screen showing all possible active cameras (i.e. camera 1, camera 2, content PC, etc.), simply use the left and right selection keys on the remote or press the number for the device that you would like to use.
