In the event of obscene, threatening, or harassing phone calls, all Enterprise Telephony Service VoIP devices (Cisco and VoIP analog) as well as all Verizon Centrex telephones are able to dial *57 to activate the call trace function. By hanging up and dialing *57 immediately after receiving an obscene, harassing or life-threatening phone call, individuals who use the University's telephone system can request a trace against the telephone number used to place the call. The service will only trace the last incoming call and details of the trace will be flagged for use by University Police Services.

Activating Call Trace does not automatically alert Police Services that an obscene, harassing or life-threatening call has occurred. Therefore, individuals are encouraged to notify University Police Services at 3-1111 (in addition to initiating call tracing), when this type of a call has been received. Those living off-campus who receive obscene, harassing or life-threatening phone calls should refer to the instructions at the front of the Verizon Telephone Directory and contact the local police department.
