Penn State Telephony customers
Introduction
Be more productive from anywhere on any device with Cisco Jabber, a unified communications application. Cisco Jabber is a unified communications application for Windows, Mac and mobile devices (IOS/Android). With Cisco Jabber, faculty and staff can bring their Penn State phone number with them when they are away from their office. Supported Cisco Jabber services include audio/video calling, instant messaging, and voicemail.
Cisco Jabber is considered a feature enhancement to the enterprise telephony service offering and is provided at no additional charge as part of your administrative telephone number (on up to three devices). Cisco Jabber is licensed for Penn State knowledge workers (based upon the roles: faculty, staff, employees, and emeritus). Individuals in the roles of Member or Student (ex: student employees) can be added upon department request and the department would start the process by requesting a new VoIP line (University phone number) for that individual.
Emergency Calling: To place 911 calls, use either a landline or your cellular phone. The Cisco Jabber application is not recommended to place calls for emergency services.
Note: You will be required to accept (OK) in the 911 notification pane prior to utilizing Cisco Jabber phone services.
Benefits of Cisco Jabber at Penn State:
- Users can make and receive audio and video calls
- Chat with others logged into the system, individually or in group chats
- Place calls by searching the Penn State Enterprise Active Directory or create contact lists
- Find colleagues, see if they are available, and collaborate using your preferred method
Use Cases:
- Enable mobile faculty and staff to make or receive calls associated with their University number from virtually anywhere. Calls from smartphone take on the identity (Calling Line Identification or CLID) of the service number, avoiding disclosing personal information and providing consistent customer support for return calls.
- Enable stationary faculty and staff to make or receive calls associated with their University number via cell phones or blue tooth devices with computers in a wireless fashion.
- Enable faculty and staff to initiate chats or calls directly from contact lists on Office365 Outlook meetings or emails.
- Enable faculty and staff to listen to and/or forward voicemail.
- Provides seamless transition of calls between devices (i.e. shift an on-going call from a phone set to a Jabber client on a cell phone as you leave your office)
Prerequisites for using Cisco Jabber at Penn State:
- You currently have a Penn State telephone number provisioned on the enterprise telephony system.
- Enable your office phone number and PSU Access ID for Cisco Jabber services by submitting a request for 'Cisco Jabber'
- The use of a headset (Wired or Bluetooth) is recommended for better call quality.
