Issue

The GlobalProtect portal config and authentication cookies are stored in encrypted files on the host operating system with a .dat extension. Occasionally, the content of these files become corrupted or improperly referenced by the GP agent. Often, removing the .dat files will resolve connectivity issues.

Environment

  • Windows 10 operating system
  • GlobalProtect agent is installed and has previously connected to a VPN gateway

Resolution

Locate and remove all of the files with a ".dat" extension in these directory locations:

  • C:\Users\<user-profile>\AppData\Local\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect
  • C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\GlobalProtect  (Requires administrative privileges to modify the contents of this directory)
