This article advises SIMSbudgets' users on how Data Management and Sharing Costs (DMSP) are imported into Cayuse.

****Based on updated NIH Guidance (NOT-OD-23-161), the Single Budget Line Item Requirement for Data Management and Sharing Costs (DMSP) has been rescinded for applications with due dates on or after October 5, 2023. While the single cost line item is no longer required, NIH will require applicants to specify estimated DMS cost details within the “Budget Justification” attachment of the R&R Budget Form or “Additional Narrative Justification” attachment of the PHS 398 Modular Budget Form, pursuant to the instructions.
The business rules previously outlined in this document are no longer in use and have been removed and feature was disabled in SIMSbudgets as of January 09, 2024. Therefore, DMS costs will be imported into Cayuse and requested in the appropriate cost category, e.g., personnel, equipment, supplies, and other expenses, following most recent guidance.
The DMSP indicator was added to SIMSbudgets as a result of NIH Policy on Data Management and Sharing (DMS) policy (effective January 25, 2023) to promote the sharing of scientific data. Users are able to update a DMSP checkbox on the "Line Item Editor" or for each: Cat I, Cat II, Cat III, Cat IV, Cat V, MTDC and TDC. This update is needed to ensure accurate identification and import of Data Management and Sharing Costs into Cayuse Proposals, RR budget form.
Users have the ability to update any category line item being added or existing on a SIMSbudgets by updating a checkbox that indicates Data Management and Sharing Costs (DMSP).
