Introduction

Host Information Profile (HIP) notifications inform you when there is a problem on your device that may affect your use of the GlobalProtect VPN. This article describes the types of HIP notifications, the information they include, and specific notifications that you may receive if your device is affected.

For more information about GlobalProtect, and a list of related articles, see KB0013431, GlobalProtect Remote Access VPN - Overview.

Types of HIP Notifications

There are two types of HIP notifications: Warning notifications and Enforcement notifications.

Warning notifications

Warning notifications feature an amber banner across the top. A warning notification alerts you to an issue that may impact your ability to use GlobalProtect in the future, but is not currently affecting your connection.

Example of a warning notification:

Enforcement notifications

Enforcement notifications feature a red banner across the top. An enforcement notification alerts you to an issue that is currently impacting your use of the GlobalProtect VPN. Restrictions have been enforced on your connection to mitigate potential security risks.

Anatomy of a HIP Notification

A HIP notification can include up to five fields:

  • Banner: The colored banner at the top of the notification. The banner conveys 3 pieces of information:
    • The heading "GlobalProtect Remote Access VPN" let's you know that the notification is from GlobalProtect.
    • The color of the banner indicates whether GlobalProtect is functioning normally or not:
      • Amber means that the notification contains important information, but GlobalProtect is functioning normally.
      • Red means that limitations have been enforced on the VPN connection until the issue described is resolved.
    • The subheading in the banner indicates the type of issue involved, which could be related to operating system, A/V status, or GlobalProtect agent status. For example, "Version Upgrade needed ASAP" indicates the version of GlobalProtect software on your device needs to be updated.
  • Description: 1-2 sentences that describes why the HIP notification is being presented to the user.
  • Action taken (if any): What action has been taken while the host is in the current state.
  • Suggested resolution: How the user can resolve the issue. This may include links to supporting Knowledge Base articles if available.
  • Support details: Additional information about how to get support.
