Article Intended For

Penn State faculty, staff, students, and affiliates.

Introduction

If you forget your user ID, nine-digit numeric ID, or password for your Penn State Access Account, you can reset or recover those values by visiting the Penn State Account Management website (https://accounts.psu.edu) - as long as you have provided a recovery email address.

A recovery email address is a non-Penn State email address to which the system can send an email with a link for resetting your password or a verification code for you to use to confirm your identity.

This article provides instructions for updating the recovery email address associated with your Penn State Access Account.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Go to the Security Settings page on the Penn State Account Management Website (https://accounts.psu.edu).

  2. In the Account Recovery section, click Recovery Email.

  3. Enter the email address you want Penn State to use as a secondary contact and click Update.

    1. Be sure that the email address you provide:
      • Is entered correctly, without typos,
      • Includes @ and the provider (Example: joe_shmoe@gmail.com),
      • Is not a Penn State email address (Example: js123@psu.edu), and
      • Is one you can readily access.

    2. If the email address you provide is a Comcast (xFinity) account:
      • Your spam filtering preferences must be set to Save a Copy of Emails Marked as Spam for you to receive the emails from Penn State Account Management.
      • See Set Email Filters or Spam Filters – Xfinity Connect Help for Comcast / xFinity's instructions for checking or changing spam filtering preferences.
