Finding a Wireless Mac Address

Any device capable of connecting to a wireless network has a unique MAC address. To connect a device that is not compatible with the eduroam network, you’ll need to locate its wireless MAC address and register it through the roomgear portal. Below are examples of how to find the wireless MAC address for commonly used devices.

Amazon Echo

  1. Download the Amazon Alexa app to your phone or computer and sign in with your Amazon account.
  2. Connect to the wireless network transmitted by your Echo device.
  3. The wireless MAC address for your Echo can be found at the bottom of the Echo Setup screen in the Alexa app

For Amazon Echo that has been set up previously

  1.  Download Amazon Echo App- if not already downloaded
  2.  On the Home Screen>Devices>Echo and Alexa
  3.  Click the device you want to add- Device should show "Offline"
  4.  At the top right click the gear icon (settings)
  5.  Scroll to the  bottom and click "About"
  6.  Mac Address is listed

Amazon Fire TV

  1.  Plug in your Amazon Fire TV stick into your TV
    • If this is the first time using this Fire TV device, the wireless MAC address will appear in the list of wireless networks during setup at the far-right of the list.
    • If this Fire TV stick has been used in the past, navigate to Settings > My Fire TV > About and the wireless MAC address will be listed on this screen

Android

  1. Connect to psu-personal.  You will probably be disconnected but this will add the network to your known networks list.
  2. Go to Manage Known Networks, and select psu-personal.
  3. Change the MAC address type to Phone MAC. (Click "View More" if necessary to see all the settings.)
  4. The MAC address you need to register will appear under "MAC Address"
  5. Repeat step 1 through 3 again for the roomgear network, if required.

Apple iOS

Note: the network must be in range in order to find and register your MAC address.

  1. Open the setting apps.
  2. Select Wi-Fi.
  3. Find "roomgear" or "psu-personal" in the list of Wi-Fi networks and click the No alt supplied for Image next to the network name
  4. Find "Private Wi-Fi Address" and turn it off.
  5. The Wireless MAC address is listed next to "Wi-Fi address."

Apple TV

  1. Plug in your Apple TV and follow the setup until you reach the step to connect a network.
  2. Select PSU and attempt to Connect. This will fail, which is normal.
  3. The Wireless MAC address should now be displayed on the Apple Tv’s screen.

Google Home

  1. Plug in your Google Home
  2. Download and open the Google Home app on your phone
  3. You should see your Google Home listed. Select it then press Set Up
  4. Accept the prompt allowing your phone to connect to your Google Home
  5. Answer the setup questions listed
  6. Enter the location of your Google Home and select continue
  7. The wireless MAC address will be listed at the bottom right corner of the screen

Microsoft Windows

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi
  2. Find Random Hardware Address, and turn it off.
  3. Click Hardware Properties
  4. Physical Address (MAC) is the address you must register.

Microsoft Xbox 360

  1. From the Xbox 360 main menu, go to My Xbox > System Settings > Network Settings > Configure Network
  2. Select the additional settings tabs and then select Alternate MAC address.
  3. The wireless MAC addresses will be listed at the bottom of this screen.

Microsoft Xbox One

    1. Complete the initial setup until you reach the network connection step.
    2. Attempt to connect to PSU. This will fail, which is normal.
    3. Select Fix it.
    4. Wait for the troubleshooter to fail.
    5. The MAC addresses will now be listed. Use Wireless MAC for Wi-Fi connections.
    1. From the Xbox One home screen, select Settings.
    2. Under the Console tab, select Network.
    3. Select Advanced Settings. The wireless MAC addresses will be displayed.

Nintendo 3DS

  1. From the 3Ds’s main menu, go to System Settings > Internet Settings > Other Information.
  2. Select Confirm MAC Address. The wireless MAC address will appear

Nintendo Wii

  1. Select Wii Settings
  2. Select Internet > Console Information
  3. The wireless MAC address is listed under MAC

Nintendo Wii U

  1. From the Wii U main menu, select System Settings
  2. Select Internet > View MAC Address. The wireless MAC address will be listed.

Nintendo Switch

  1. From the Switch's home menu, go to systems settings.
  2. Scroll down and select Internet.
  3. The MAC address will appear under System MAC address.

Remarkable Paper Tablet

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Tap on Help
  4. Scroll down to Copyright notices and software licenses
  5. Your MAC address will be displayed at the bottom of the page.
    Note: Depending on the version of the OS you are using, "Help" might be its own separate menu in the sidebar instead of a subsection in General, but the steps remain the same.

Roku

  1. From the Roku home screen, select Settings > Player Info.
  2. The wireless MAC address is listed next to Wireless MAC address.

    *Alternatively, on the back of your Roku there are a pair of six 2-digit pairs separated by colons, e.g. 00:0D:0A:1H:3G:5C One set is for the ethernet connector and the other is for the wireless connector.

Roku TV

  1. Go to the network setup for wireless on the device
  2. Let it do a scan
  3. When the scan completes, navigate to the "scan again to see all networks" or "private network" options
  4. The right-hand pane will show you your WiFi MAC address

Sony PlayStation 3

  1. From the PlayStation 3 main menu, select settings > System Settings > System Information
  2. The wireless MAC address will be listed on the screen.

Sony PlayStation 4

  1. On the PlayStation 4 main menu, go to Settings > System > System Information
  2. The wireless MAC address will appear next to MAC Address (Wi-Fi).

Sony PlayStation 5

  1. On the PlayStation 5 main menu, select the gear icon in the upper-right > System > Console Information
  2. The wireless MAC address will appear next to MAC Address (Wi-Fi).
