Article Intended For
Penn State faculty and staff.
Introduction
Be more productive from anywhere on any device with Cisco Jabber. Cisco Jabber is a softphone application for Windows, Mac, and mobile devices (IOS/Android). With Cisco Jabber, faculty and staff can bring their Penn State phone number with them when they are away from their office. Supported Cisco Jabber services include audio/video calling, instant messaging, and voicemail.
Cisco Jabber is considered a feature enhancement to the University's telephone service and is provided at no additional charge as part of your administrative telephone number (on up to three devices). Cisco Jabber is licensed for Penn State knowledge workers (based upon the roles: faculty, staff, employees, and emeritus). Individuals in the roles of Member or Student (ex: student employees) can be added upon department request and the department would start the process by requesting a new VoIP line (University phone number) for that individual.
! MyE911 Application is Required for 9-1-1 Calling Using Jabber
The MyE911 application is not required for devices that also have a cellular calling service installed.
To use the Cisco Jabber softphone to dial 9-1-1 from your computer or tablet, you must also have the required MyE911 location tracking application installed and configured on your device. The MyE911 application will provide your physical location to emergency responders the same way our cellular network routes our locations to responders. Learn more about MyE911 here.
