Article Intended For
Penn State faculty and staff who can download and install programs without local IT support.
Introduction
! MyE911 Application is Required for Jabber Users
You will not need the MyE911 application if the softphone device has a cellular calling plan.
To use the Cisco Jabber softphone to dial 9-1-1 from your computer or tablet, you must also have the required MyE911 location tracking application installed and configured on your device. The MyE911 application will provide your physical location to emergency responders, like our cellular network routes our locations to responders.
Device Requirements for using Cisco Jabber
- You will need a Penn State telephone number issued through the University's VoIP telephone system.
- Enable your office phone number and PSU Access ID for Cisco Jabber services by submitting a request for Cisco Jabber.
- A headset (Wired or Bluetooth) is recommended for better call quality.
- A webcam is optional.
- You must also install and configure the MyE911 location tracking application on devices that do not have cellular calling service. Learn more about MyE911 here.
