Faculty and staff may request three types of course spaces in Canvas: a Sandbox (practice course), Master Courses, and Manually Enrolled Courses. In addition, they may request a new space to have multiple courses merged into one course.
These Penn State-specific customization features are available as buttons on the Canvas Dashboard.

NOTE: If you do not see the buttons for these features on your Canvas Dashboard, it may be a result of High Contrast Styles being enabled in your personal settings. Refer to the Turn High Contrast Mode off article to resolve this.

Sandbox: A practice course space where you can familiarize yourself with the features of Canvas.

Merge Course Manager
Merged Course: A new course that is created by combining two or more other courses. Each of the original courses is added as a course section in the new course.

Request a Master Course
Master Course: A course development area or prep space for a course that will be taught in the future. You can design and develop your course using a Master Course space and then copy it into the official course space from LionPATH in a future semester.

Manually Enrolled Course: A non-credit-bearing course that has student enrollment but is not connected to LionPATH.
