Issue

How do I subscribe to a list via email, and not via the Web Interface?

Environment

  • Email Client
  • Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, iOS Mail, Android Mail, etc.

Resolution

NOTE: The resolution will contain variables -  please be aware of this when composing your message, as your To: field will contain something different than what is displayed below.

  1. Start with a new message on your desired Email Client.
  2. The To: Field must contain: LISTNAME-subscribe-request@lists.psu.edu
  3. A subject is not required - however, if you still wish to enter one, you may use "Subscribe Request"
  4. The body of the email may be blank as well. If you want to put something there, repeat "Subscribe Request"
  5. Send the message. You should receive a confirmation email back from the server.

NOTE: LISTNAME variable MUST be the full list name of the list you wish to subscribe to. (Example: L-ExampleList-subscribe-request@lists.psu.edu)

NOTE: The server will collect your email address from the From: field when you send.
