A Sandbox is a practice course space where you can familiarize yourself with the features of Canvas.

From your Canvas Dashboard, select the Request a Course Sandbox button to automatically have a Sandbox created for you and add you to the roster as a “teacher.”

The Sandbox is created immediately.

Important Notes:

Sandbox courses should never be used to enroll students or to teach credit or non-credit bearing courses.

Only one Sandbox per user ID may be created, so if you already have a Sandbox and you select this button, you will get a message that reads “Error: Sandbox already exists for user.

If you would like more than one Sandbox, click on the “Request a Master or Manually Enrolled Course” button

NOTE: Additional Sandboxes are not created immediately. Requests for additional Sandboxes are reviewed and approved by the IT Service Desk.

Please visit Course Sandbox, Merge Courses, and Master or Manually Enrolled Courses for an overview of the three types of course spaces in Canvas that faculty and staff may request.
