Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is a standard method of integrating rich learning applications with learning management systems like Canvas. LTIs, such as Library Resources and VoiceThread, can be integrated into your Canvas course and made available to your students via the Course Navigation Menu, Modules, or Assignments (depending on the integration).

 

Add an LTI to Your Course Navigation Menu

Follow the steps below to display an LTI in your Canvas course menu:

  1. Click Settings in the Course Navigation menu.
  2. Select the Navigation tab.
  3. Click the Ellipsis (...) to the right of the integration name.

  1. Click the Save button.

 

Add an Integration to a Module or Assignment

Some LTIs are designed to be used within course assignments and modules. Follow the steps below to utilize an LTI in Modules and/or Assignments in your course:

In Modules:

  1. Click the + button.
  2. Select External Tool from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select the LTI from the list that appears.
  4. Complete any appropriate information in the pop-up window.
  5. Click the Add Item button.

In Assignments:

  1. Click the + Assignment button.
  2. Enter the appropriate information to create the assignment.
  3. Select External Tool in the Submission Type drop-down menu box.

  1. Click the Find button.

Click Find button to search for an LTI

  1. Select the LTI from the list.
  2. Click the Select button.
  3. Enter the remaining information in the assignment creation page.
  4. Click the Save or Save & Publish button.
